1. Change Your Homepage in Internet Explorer
- Open Internet Explorer
- Go to the webpage you wish to be your homepage. Like http://www.indytel.com
- Left click
Tools in the top menu
- Left click
Internet Options at the bottom of the menu that pops up
- Left click
Use Current button.
- Left click
Apply button at the bottom right
- Left click
OK button to close the window.
- Your homepage is now set and will come up the next time you open Internet Explorer
2. Delete Internet Temporary Files in Internet Explorer
( this will remove all temp files and saved forms )
- Open Internet Explorer
- Left click
Tools in the top menu
- Left click
Internet Options at the bottom of the menu
- Left click
Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files
- Left click
Delete all offline content
- Left click
OK
- Left click
OK again to close the window
3. Reset Internet Explorer settings to default
- Open Internet Explorer
- Left click
Tools in the top menu on the right side
- Left click
Internet Options at the bottom of the menu
- Left click
Programs tab on the top right
- Left click
Reset button on the bottom right
- Left click on checkmark to remove it if you wish to keep your current homepage
- Left click
OK to close the window
4. Install Windows Defender
(This will help to clean unwanted internet cookies and spyware)
- Left click on this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx
- Left click on the Get It Now button in the middle of the window.
- Left click on the Download button.
- If the Download does not start automatically there is a link to Start Download manually.
- Left click the Save button.
- Left click the Next and Validate to Validate your Windows.
- Left click on I Accept Terms to highlight it and Left click Next.
- Left click Recommended Settings at the top and Left click Next.
- The button next to Complete should be dark. Left click Next.
- Left click Install and wait till it finishes.
- There should be a checkmark in the Check for Updates box. Left click Finish.
- Wait a few minutes and it will update and start a scan. Wait till it is done scanning.
- There will be a list of items found. If you have any programs in this list you wish to keep select Ignore, otherwise, leave the default selection.
- Left click Remove All to fix the items found. Then restart the computer.
5. Install Firefox Internet Browser
- Open Internet Explorer and click on the link to go to http://www.getfirefox.com
- Left click on the Download Firefox icon at the top left of the page.
- Left click Run.
- If another window pops up asking whether to Run the program, just Left click Run.
- Left click Next.
- Left click to highlight the button next to I Accept the Terms of the License Agreement and Left click Next.
- The Standard button should be highlighted. Left click Next.
- Left click Next.
- You may be asked to import your Internet Explorer settings. Just click Next.
- Left click Finish and Firefox should start up. If you wish to change your homepage go to the next How To.
6. Set the Firefox Homepage
- Open Firefox
- Go to the webpage you wish to be your homepage. Like http://www.indytel.com
- Left click
Tools in the top menu on the right side
- Left click
Preferences at the bottom of the menu that pops up
- Left click
General at the top left
- Left click
Use Current Page in the top middle
- Left click
OK
- Your homepage is now set and will come up the next time you open Firefox
7. Delete Temporary Internet Files in Firefox
- Open Firefox
- Left click
Tools in the top menu on the right side
- Left click
Options at the bottom of the menu that pops up
- Left click
Privacy at the upper left
- If you wish to delete all history files, left click
Clear History at the bottom right
- Left click on each tab you wish to clear and click on the Clear button at the bottom right
- Left click
OK to close the window
8. Customize Firefox
- Open Firefox
- Right click to the right of
Help in the top menu
- A window will open with icons. You may grab an icon by dragging and dropping it next to another icon on the top of the firefox window.
- Each icon performs a different task, such as, printing, opening a new window, or opening a new tabbed window
9. Add Extentions to Firefox
- Open Firefox
- Left click
Tools in the top menu on the right side
- Left click
Extensions in the menu that pops up
- Left click
Get More Extensions at the bottom right
- Left click the link the extension you wish to add
- Left click the
Install link
- Left click
Install Now at the bottom right of the new window
- Left click on the
X on the upper right the close the window
- Close Firefox and reopen Firefox to start using your new extension
