Personal Web Space and FTP

If you are interested in setting up your personal web space please send an email to helpdesk@indytel.com.

This does come with your internet service but is not turned on by default.

How do I look at my personal homepage?
Your personal homepage is located here:

http://www.indytel.com/~yourusername

If your username is johndoe, your personal homepage will be located at http://www.indytel.com/~johndoe
No password is necessary to view your personal homepage. The page is visible to anyone that cares to look

at it and knows how to get to it.

How do I make changes to my personal homepage?
To access the computer that your homepage is located on, you need to use an FTP program (also called and "ftp client"). This will allow you to add/remove/change the files that make up your personal home page.

What is FTP?
"FTP" stands for File Transfer Protocol, which refers to the method by which files are transferred to the Web server. It is designed to provide you with access to your Web site content on demand. This provides you with flexibility in maintaining the content of your Web site.

How do I get an FTP program?
You can download most FTP software programs for either a PC or Macintosh from the Internet. Some common FTP programs are CuteFTP, WS_FTP, and AbsoluteFTP®.

Download CuteFTP
Download SmartFTP
Download WS_FTP
Download AbsoluteFTP

How do I configure my FTP program?
The following information is necessary to access your Web site content:

FTP HOSTNAME - users.indytel.com
USERNAME - same as your email username (but leave off the @indytel.com part)
PASSWORD - same as your email password

In which folder is my homepage actually located?
Once you are connected to the server through your FTP program, you will see a folder named 'web'. ALL of
the files for your homepage must be placed in this folder. In addition, the actual html file that makes up your homepage must be named 'index.html'.
